Indian Arbitration Audit: Institutional Perspectives on the Journey So Far and the Way Forward
by Mumbai Center for International Arbitration and Singapore International Arbitration Centre
28 August 2025, Thursday
14:00 – 16:00
Allen & Gledhill
As the Indian economy grows and attracts global investors, understanding the dispute resolution landscape is key to mitigating commercial risks. Court delays and the dominance of ad hoc arbitration continue to challenge institutional arbitration, despite its recognized importance globally. This panel will examine the evolution of institutional arbitration in India, highlight key developments over the past decade, and discuss areas where further growth is needed.
The Panel will discuss the following:
- The impact of legislative reforms and the shifting attitude of Indian courts toward arbitration, particularly in enforcing institutional awards
- User concerns around costs, efficiency, and arbitrator conduct, while sharing insights into digital innovations and global best practices
- The role of SIAC in administering a number of key India-related arbitrations over the years
- Strategies for enhancing access to and for MCIA
The session will explore how institutional arbitration can strengthen India’s position as a leading arbitration hub and a globally preferred seat.
